Building HCLE involves the completion of many small tasks. Some of these are vague and require an extensive understanding of the whole undertaking to do them well. These are the domain of our volunteer and paid staff. Others are very well defined and can be completed in just an hour or two. To do these small projects we need occasional, short-term volunteers. Still others take a longer commitment but are easy to describe. These tasks are better undertaken by our "60-hour" volunteers. We will organize these folks into teams that build various aspects of the virtual museum.
In the section immediately below you will find a chronological list of small (under two hour) projects that we invite you to do for us as "short-termers". Most of the tasks require some experience with web research or knowledge of wiki editing. If you have the basics the HCLE staff will teach you the specifics -- especially if you are likely to volunteer for a similar project in the future. Please review the list to see if any catch your fancy. If so, click on the link to jump to a more detailed description of the task with references to the relevant pages on this HCLE wiki site or other sites on the web. When you find something you would like to do for us, send an email to "short-term at hcle dot org" ('at' is @ and 'dot' is .) Liza (Vision Keeper) or Tom (Project Manager) will get back to you as soon as possible.
If you think you could lend us 60 hours of your valuable time over the next 6 months, please read our Volunteering Page
Alphabetize virtual museum list - Scroll down on the Virtual Museums page and you will find a list of Virtual or Online Museums we know about so far. First, click on the link for each museum to make sure the link is still active. If the link takes you to a working web site on a new tab, go back and edit the HCLE wiki page so that the museums appear in alphabetical order by name. Ignore leading "The" and "A". If the link is broken, move the name down to the "lost" list. Save the page. Recheck the saved page to be sure your edits were effective. Then come back to this page and put your name and the date you completed the task next to the task on the List of Small Projects above. HCLE staff will check your work and move the project to the completed list. Note that you will have to "join" the HCLE wiki before you can do this.
